REVIEW : Oz Hawe Petersson’s Rendezvous – s/t (Release: 22.03.2024, Pride & Joy Music)

Oz Hawe Petersson's Rendezvous is a melodic rock project featuring Osukaru guitarist Oz Hawe Petersson and keyboard player Mathias Rosén. Both musicians were a part of the short-lived band Eye (Sweden) which folded back in 2010.

Both Oz and Mathias kept on writing songs but due to their schedule they were not in a rush to find a 'proper home' for those songs. But the time is finally right now for these two musicians to release this excellent opus through Pride & Joy Music. Apart from Oz and Mathias, the album features a great list of guests such as David Forbes (Boulevard), Chris Rosander, Fredrik Werner (Osukaru), Sayit Dölen & many more.

The first big moment of this debut comes with the amazing, melodious and beautiful tune of "Sacred Land". A simply breathtaking Scandi-melodic rock gem that includes a catchy hook and chorus line, stunning harmonic lines and an overall positive vibe! The moodier "As We Cry" is solid while with the next one, "These Tears", we are dealing with a very Strangeways-esque track! Yes, this track reminds me a lot of Strangeways/Heartland earlier works in regards to the melodies, the vibe, the vocals e.t.c.!!!

The edgier "Midnight Lady (Dangerous Game)" gives an extra flavour and in "Fools Gold" we find the amazing singer Jane Gould on lead vocals who is delivering same excellent performances! "This Time Around" and "The Essence Of Love" (again with Jane Gould on leads) are both solid, ultra melodic and amazing AOR tracks with a big mid 80's vibe in it! The two tunes that closing this really super release, "All Roads Lead Back To You" and "Never Be" are both great.

All in all, Oz Hawe Petersson's Rendezvous self-titled record is an amazing opus that 'travels' you through the glory days of the mid 80's, late 80's, golden era of AOR/Melodic Rock scene that refers to bands such as Strangeways, Heartland and Alias! Yes it's that good!

RATING : 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆  (9 / 10 )
