REVIEW : VOLSTER --- Perfect Storm (ROAR Rock Of Angles Records, April 20, 2018)

VOLSTER is a new melodic hard rock band that consists of guitarist Ulf Andersson and bass player Henrik Lundberg (who were both members of the band Masquerade), Peter Tenning on vocals and Daniel Granlund (Syconaut) on drums. "Perfect Storm" includes 12 tracks and is produced by VOLSTER, co-produced and mixed by Max Norman (Ozzy Osbourne, Lynch Mob, Armored Saint, Lizzy Borden, Megadeth, Y&T) and mastered by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (Soilwork, Onslaught, Armageddon, Degradead, Dynazty) at The Panic Room Mastering.

The new record kicks-off with the hard-hitting tune of "King Of The Hill". This track sounds the perfect opener of this debut and it's a great appetizer of what's coming-up next. I really love the big groove, the crunchy guitars and the cool chorus line here. "Heaven Or Hell", "Perfect Storm" and "Breathless" are all three solid melodic heavy rockers that includes great arrangements, melodies and really impressive guitar lines.
"Still In Love" is a modern rocker, darker and reminds a bit of Masquerade's late albums. "Babylon" and "Hero" are two more good songs while with "Games Of War" the band delivers a killer track! Groovy, heavier (check out the insane guitar work) with a big sound that makes you wanna turn on the volume. Love this one!! The modern mid-tempo tune of "Drifting Away" is yet another highlight out of "Perfect Storm".

Surprisingly good debut! "Perfect Storm" is an album that is a must have for every modern hard rock lover out there. The guitar work is really amazing here and the majority of the songs are solid with excellent musicianship. For sure, "Perfect Storm" is one of this year's (so far..) pleasant surprises.

Rating : 8/10
