JAY PARMAR / CIRCLE OF FIRE (2012)

The name Jay Parmar maybe a stranger for most of you but be sure that after hearing his latest effort "Circle Of Fire" this name will be known to a wider audience. Let's see who is Jay Parmar. He is a guitarist playin' the six-string from the age of 16 and as Parmar says : "over 20 years later I'm still playing, learning and enjoying guitar. Guitar playin' is a journey....."

His major influence is George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob) and he is the reason that Parmar started playin' guitar. He is, also, influenced by Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Jimi Hendrix among others. He is now signed to Steve Vai's label, Digital Labels, for the release of his first full-length album "Circle Of Fire". Jay Parmar produced and released a tribute album for George Lynch which was titled "Will Play For Lynch" and his solo album "Strange Day" in 2005. He, also, appeared in two live tracks on the Eden Curses' album "Condemned To Burn".

This album starts with the huge heavy rocker tune of "Walking In Circles" and from the first notes the Lynch's influences are more than obvious. Everything here is perfect and for those who are missing the early Dokken or Lynch Mob sound will discover a great track here. "You Are Not Alone" is an overall good tune that could easily appear in Lynch/Pilson's project. Jay Parmar's guitar work really shines here!! In  "Test Of Time", we have a classic mellodic hard rock anthem and the first guest appearence of Andreas Novak on lead vocal. An extremely melodic and catchy tune filled with the powerfull performances of Novak!! "Lost In You" is a cool hard rock track and on lead vocals we find Carsten 'Lizard' Schulz  of Evidence One. "Now You Are Gone" is the first mid-tempo moment and imho the weakest moment so far. "Hell Is The Place" (Carsten Schulz) is a well-crafted heavier song with a strong chorus line while "Stop Laughing" is another highlight from the new album. Catchy as hell, great melodic line and very good arrangements all these plus a solid vocal performance in a superb track!!! "Guilty", "Harms Length" and "The Dragon" are all very good heavy rockers. The album closes perfectly with the tune "Circle Of Fire". "When Angels Cry" is a bonus track that features George Lynch as a guest.

Really imnpressed by this one!! It has all the elements of the hard rock/ melodic hard 'n' heavy scene of the 80's, early 90's, plus a fresh air and, most of all, it has some incredible guitar work by Jay Parmar. Most of the songs are catchy and the few average moments don't bother me at all. This guy has the talent and skills to become the next guitar-hero!!!! Well done Jay!!!
