Dynazty was formed in late 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden. Dynazty consisted of Joel Fox Apelgren, bass (ex Foxey), George Egg, drums (ex Foxey), John Berg, guitar (ex Sharp) and Rob Love Magnusson, guitar (Zan Clan). The band sounded great from the first rehearsal, but the final piece was missing, the singer.
After doing two shows with temporary vocalists Riley Wikked and Swan (Blackrain) the search for a full time singer started. The band put an ad out on myspace, and Nils Molin, a completely unknown singer from small town Kilafors, Sweden, replied. It took one rehearsal for the guys to realize that this was to be the final line-up.
Recording an album was top priority, and in September 2008 the band entered the legendary Polar Studios in Stockholm, together with producer Chris Laney. The result was the album "BRING THE THUNDER". With their debut the guys delivered a great piece of hard rock stuff with an 80's feeling.
So, nowadays, the boyz are ready to knock us down once again with their second release which is titled "KNOCK YOU DOWN"!!! Below is the interview that Joel gave to Heavy Paradise and talked about their debut album, their upcoming release and some other interesting stuff! Enjoy....
- Even though we have accomplished quite a lot so far, we haven't been around for too long. We started playing together in early 2008, and from the start we set up some really tough goals; Record an album, release the album and tour Europe. We managed to do that in less than two years, so we're very happy about our progress, cos it's really not the easiest things to do.
heavy paradise : So, you have a new album! Can you tell me some things about this new one? How long did you take to record "Knock You Down" ?
- Knock You Down is a hard rocking album that will do what it promises; KNOCK YOU DOWN! We recorded the album during three very intense weeks in Los Angeles, California. It was an incredible experience!
heavy paradise : Are there any main differences considering your debut?
- It's not very far from the debut album, but with time you grow a lot as a songwriter, and that shows! The songs on Knock You Down are heavier and have a great deal of catchy melodies. The debut was, and still is, great, but this one is even stronger!
heavy paradise : How can you describe the sound of DYNAZTY? Is it hair metal, sleaze or just hard rock? Do you accept the labels when it comes to music?
- We don't really care much for putting labels on music, but I would say that we play melodic hard rock. Labels like "sleaze" and "hair metal" are often misleading and refers more to how a band looks than what they actually sound like.
heavy paradise : "Bring The Thunder" received some great reviews all over the net! How do you feel about that?
- We're extremely happy and honored to have received such GREAT reviews. It's very rewarding when people appreciate something that you've been working hard with for a long time!
heavy paradise : "Bring The Thunder" was released by Perris Records. Your new one is about to released from Stormvox Records. How so and you guys didn't continued under Perris Records? Do you think that it's hard for a band nowadays to get a good record deal?
- Perris Records was a great label to release our first album on, but when we got the offer from Stormvox Records we didn't hesitate a second. We're very excited to be on this label working with a lot of passionate, dedicated people! Getting a good record deal is incredibly hard. Since I wasn't around in the "glory days" I can't say how it was back then, but seeing how the market changes now I feel very lucky to be where we are now.
heavy paradise : So lets get back to your new album. "Knock You Down" is a catchy title! Who's idea was the album's title? I'm really anxious about this one!
- We came up with Knock You Down after writing the song with the same name. It feels very much like DYNAZTY, and is sort of in the same fashion as Bring The Thunder. A punch in the face!
heavy paradise : Is the songwritting in DYNAZTY a team work result?
- Yes! Very much so. Usually someone comes up with an idea, and then we sit down all four and finish the song. Sometimes it ends up like the original idea, and sometimes it ends up being a completely different song. I think it's important to have a lot of different input when you write songs, or you can easily get stuck doing the same thing over and over.
heavy paradise : Which are your influences?
- Our influences vary a lot! Of course, we have all been listening to classic bands like Skid Row, Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne and Dio etc, but we are also influenced by music in completely different genres.
heavy paradise : Could you tell me some things about the following?
SKID ROW: Slave To The Grind remains one of the best albums ever, no doubt!
MOTLEY CRUE: The idea of NOT wanting to drink beer while listening to these guys is just insane, right?
GIRLS: Yes please!
LOVE: A very important and complicated thing. No matter who or what you love.
RELIGION: Believe me, music really IS my religion!
SWEDEN: A beautiful country with a lot of beautiful girls. I wouldn't die if the weather was more like in, say, Greece.
DYNAZTY: An extremely dedicated group of people that want nothing but to create and play the best music there is!
heavy paradise : Do you want to say something to your fans?
- Thanks to everyone who's supporting us! Your love and passion is what keeps us going in this rather tough business! Remember to check in on our website http://www.dynazty.com/ for the latest news!
heavy paradise : Are you going to perform live in the near future?
- We have a couple of festivals in Sweden this summer, and they're definitely gonna kick ass! Can't wait to be on the road again.
heavy paradise : I would like to thank you once again for this interview Joey! All the best for the future man...
- Thank you! It's been a pleasure. Stay heavy!
