DEF LEPPARD's "X" album was originaly released in 2002 and showed a modern side of this legendary band without loosing its glorious earlier elements. And which are those elements? Big choruses, solid guitars and this unique musianship that made this band huge!
With S.L.A.N.G. album the Leps turned to some new and modern sound, thing that mixed the feelings of the die hards a lot. "EUPHORIA" was a more back to the roots album with very good songs in the vain of "HYSTERIA" or "ADRENALIZE" album. My opinion is that the "X" album is somewhere in the middle! The songs are all, except a couple that there are average, good and the choruses, are all catchy including all the Def Leppard magic in it! The musicianship is once again top notch and the production crystal clear. "Now" is a great opener. It's a hard rockin' tune with a solid chorus and passionate performances! An impressive track and a classic, in my book, in the Leps catalogue! "Unbelievable" and "You're So Beautiful" are both up-tempos with a feel good vibe in it. "Everyday" is one of my favorites from "X" and "Long, Long Way to Go" is one of the best ballads that this band has ever recorded. An amazing song!! But the best track here is, no doubt, "Torn to Shreds". I love this song! The lyrics, the hooks, the chorus line...everything is perfect in this tune! I think that, if this album was ending here, then we would be talking for a classic Leppard album. And I'm sayin' this thing 'cause the rest of the tracks are not in the same level as the previous ones that I talked about. Except maybe the 'Girl Like You' which is cool and 'Let Me Be the One' which is a lovely ballad.
All in all, this a solid melodic hard rock album by this huge band. Some really impressive tunes, some very good but, also, a couple of average ones make this album a must have for each and every fan of Def Leppard.
