empYrios / ZION (2013)

“The World to Come is here, now. Mankind awakes from a deep state of unconsciousness only to realize that the current age is cursed and it's time to move on. Belief is the original sin, the source of all evil, the force pulling us down a spiral of consternation. But just as the universe can slowly decrease its expansion speed and start contracting to finally collide in a Big Crunch, humans have to redeem and travel back to their origin. Enter the realm of ZION.”

The truth is that I have never heard anything from this band till' now. From the press release I noticed that empYrios has released two albums so far, "...and the rest is silence" in 2007 and "the glorious sickness" in 2008. Originally founded by DGM's guitarist and producer Simone Mularoni, empYrios plays melodic 'in-your-face' metal stuff with some progressive pinches as well.

These guys here are very talented and that's a thing that reflects to their music. Also, the variety of their influences are givin' the extra something to the album's final result. From SYMPHONY X and Fear Factory and back to SYMPHONY X , empYrios achieving not only to marry their influences perfectly but, also, to create a unique sound and build their own identity in the heavy meal world. For example, the amazing tune of "Reverie" is heavenly influenced by the progg. masters SYMPHONY X with a powerful rhythm section, a blasting guitar work and solid performances. On "Domino" we have some 'brutal' vocal lines that givin' their place to some epic performances an amazing riff and plenty of attitude.

Overall this is a solid album. The most impressive thing here is the amazing guitar work of Simone Mularoni. This guy knows how to deliver a big 'fat' riff and a 'clever' solo. The whole band is tight and their music is extremely interesting even for me who I'm into some more melodic stuff. Do yourself a big favor and check them out!
