TANGENT PLANE / PROJECT ELIMI (2011)

BIO : The result is the musical and lyrical concept in the mind of keyboardist and composer Ralph Swan. Again and again he took temporary project musicians to realize his musical visions. With a 4-track EP and various concerts with support for Fates Warning, Mind Odyssey, Sieges Even, etc. Due to the positive reviews from the media, fans and, not least, the musicians, the band was found in 2007. In early 2008, the album "Among Grey Masks" taken in self-distributed and collected excellent reviews. At this time, manifested the solid line-up Tangent Plane: Ralph Swan Warrior - Keyboards, Bass - Kontos Kostas (GRE), the guitarist Piero Pellegrino (ITA) and the singer Jan Michaelis (GER), and the drummer Dennis Hofmann (GER ).  Early 2010 the band worked in the studio with C. Schmid and RD Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy, Suicidal Angels, Orden Ogan, Eldritch, etc.) the first part of the "Project Elimi" trilogy.

The fact is that I wasn't familiar with the band's earlier works. But after I received the promo cd of this group, I have to say that I'm liking of what I'm hearing. Good Euro Power Metal  filled with melodies and very good songwritting. I also have to give my congratulations to the 7Hard record label and Axel Wiesenauer about all these high quality releases.

So, lets see what we have here! First of all, the guitar sound is super! Heavy and melodic with some nice riffs and solos. The rhythm section is solid even if I would have prefered some 'bigger' bass lines, if you know what I mean! The keys here are givin' the extra 'push' and the melody to take this effort one step higher. The only 'low' point here are the vocals! And please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the lead vocalist has a bad voice! His voice is strong and powerfull but I have the feeling , in my humble opinion, that in some parts he can't follow the music and sounds a bit confusing! Other than that, Tangent Plane's Project Elimi is a well crafted prog. album with some modern Euro Power Metal elements, a tight songwritting and an overall solid production. And maybe this will not be the album of the year but, for sure, this one will make some proggsters proud enough for the music that they love!
