MELLOWTOY / Lies (2014)

Mellowtoy have signed a deal with Scarlet Records for the release of their already fourth album which is entitled ‘Lies’. The new record has been produced by Marco Coti Zelati (Lacuna Coil), mixed by Kyle Hoffman (P.O.D, Lacuna Coil, Bush, Zebrahead) and mastered by legendary Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Metallica, Pantera, Deftones, Limp Bizkit).

Mellowtoy has shared the stage with renowned international acts like Papa Roach, Disturbed, Stone Sour, Ill Nino, Alter Bridge, HIM and Fear Factory among others. "Lies" includes, also, a couple of special guests appearances such as Cristian Machado of Ill Nino (on the song ‘Chain Reaction’) and Paolo Colavolpe of Destrage (on the song ‘Bright New World’).

The sound here, for those who aren't familiar with Mellowtoy (including me), is basically modern metal without missing some nice melodic parts, aggressive and in-your-face vocals, low tuned guitars and powerful drums. The production is big and 'fat' and is givin' to the final result the extra 'push'. The duo of  Emiliano Camellini and Matt Massa on lead vocals is also a very positive thing here 'cause the two singers are sharing some brutal-clear performances to each song and at the end they achieve to create something really interesting.

The songs that I enjoyed the most in "Lies" are the melodic "Visions", "Dead Colors", the alternative "Reflections", the ultra heavy and extremely aggressive "Chain Reaction" (feat. Cristian Machado of Ill Nino) and "A Letter From The Past" that includes a really impressive solo.

Even though I'm not a big fan of this scene, I have to admit that "Lies" is a well-crafted album that mixes perfectly the modern metal sound with some 'clever' melodies, a raw and powerful sound and it's worth to check it out!
