This is a fine record from one of the best AOR bands ever! I wouldn't say that is an album back to their roots, but the sure thing is that "Reach" achieves to combine all of their earlier big elements with some modern melodic rock stuff. Jim Peterik is out of the band this time and that's was my big worry when I heard about this new Survivor effort, because he was a main songwriter. The fact is that I was expecting a new "Too Hot To Sleep " but I was wrong! Even if there are some rockers that reminds that album, the most of the songs in "Reach" are softer. " Reach ", opens the album in a typical Survivor tradition with a big chorus, a fine up-tempo tune! "Fire Makes Steel " and "Talkin' 'Bout Love " are both energetic, feel-good tracks.
"Seconds Away " is a great ballad and probably a classic in the near future. All in all a damn fine record from Survivor!

Jim Peterik is one the main songwritters with Dave Bickler for this release ... I think Reach shows the debut of SURVIVOR, during the end of 70's with the S/t ;)And don't forget that's Jamison comes from a Hard Rock band called COBRA, and not from an AOR band ;)
ReplyDeleteA great come back of the "right sound" of SURVIVOR : Rock !
About Jim Peterik, you are right Axl(about the songwriting). I was talkin' about his major role for the makin' of this album generally(guitars/Keyboards
ReplyDelete/vocals).
Too soft for me.
